Back to overview

The Nacra 17 Class is thrilled to announce Carlos de Beltran has agreed to become the Head of our Technical Committee for the Nacra 17. As Head of the Technical Committee he also joins our class executive.

Carlos is formerly the Technical Director at World Sailing, a measurer of the 35th America’s Cup, an equipment inspector for the 2014/15 Volvo Ocean Race, and a measurer of the GC32 Class.

Carlos brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience of top level racing, especially in foiling equipment.

A core value of the Nacra 17 class is fairness. It is vital each sailor competing in an Olympic class is confident that the equipment being used is fair for all competitors. We have been actively pursing a number of initiatives to ensure there will be fairness for the 2020 Olympic games, and adding Carlos to this critical role will help us to achieve the fairness we strive for.

As the position has been vacant until now, the class executive has co-opted Carlos until the upcoming AGM in December where he can be elected by the class members.

Risor, Norway

Picturesque, idyllic, charming – Risør is a heritage preserved wooden town in the south of Norway. Positioned just behind a narrow archipelago it is close to sailing arenas, either inshore or just offshore in the Skagerak ocean. With its steady sea breeze it typically offers great sailing conditions where sailors have to show the full range of their capabilities as light winds in the morning builds to challenging in the afternoon. With a proud seafaring history as one of the largest Norwegian harbours for wooden sailing ships, it still has sailing as part of the city identity. We have based the 2019 championship in the town square and surrounding area and aim to create an intimate arrangement where sailors are an integral part of citylife and access to shops is easy and convenient. For the last two years Risør has been host city for M32 regattas and we are now looking forward to seeing the full force of 49ers, 49FX and Nacras 17 on our fjords.
