‘Man Overboard!’ leaves Dutch hopes of 4th world title hanging by a thread

A brief moment of ‘Man Overboard!’ while leading a race might have done for the hopes of Bart Lambriex and Floris van de Werken to win their fourth 49er world title. Lambriex was adjusting his trapeze height and accidentally hoisted himself off his trapeze ring attached to the supporting wire, and overboard he fell, resulting […]

Tactical Chess at Warp Speed: Antipodean and German Surge in Quiberon

If yesterday’s action in the Bay of Quiberon was a brutal test of survival—a day of capsizes, crashes, pitch-poles, and sailors literally reversing across the finish line to stay upright—today was a sophisticated game of high-speed chess. The “nastiness” of the Bay was replaced by a shifty, tactical northwest breeze ranging from 8 to 18 […]

Crash, Bang, Wallop! A tough day in the bay

High wind, big waves and monster current required some inventive sailing techniques on day three of the 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Championship in Quiberon, France. At one point in the 49er racing it was so windy that the fleet was unable to turn downwind at the windward mark. The boats kept on sailing […]

High-wind double win for British 49er

James Grummett and Rhos Hawes put on a high-wind masterclass on day two of the 49er World Championship in Quiberon, France. Battling through breeze gusting over 25 knots, the British team won both of their heats in the yellow group of qualifying. Keanu Prettner and Jakob Flachberger didn’t have such a strong day as their […]

The World’s Best Skiff and Foiling Sailors Converge on Quiberon

Racing begins May 12, Saint-Pierre-Quiberon, Brittany, France The 2026 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra 17 World Championship gets underway tomorrow in Saint-Pierre-Quiberon, on the rugged Atlantic coast of Brittany, and the setting alone promises drama. Quiberon was selected for this championship as it blends raw Oceanic winds but the racing is hidden from the worst of […]

Sailing Towards LA 2028: 2026 World and European Championships Announced

The 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra 17 Classes are excited to announce the venues and dates for our two major championships in 2026 – the World Championship in Quiberon, France, followed by the European Championship in Eckernförde, Germany. Both events will be key milestones on the road to the LA 2028 Olympic Games, as the world’s […]

The Morbihan Departmental Sailing Committee (CDV) has been chosen by three Olympic classes to organize their World Championships in May 2026. The event will take place at the National Nautical Institute – I2N (formerly the National Sailing and Watersports School – ENVSN) in Saint-Pierre-Quiberon, a renowned venue for hosting international competition teams. With several high-level events organized in Quiberon Bay in recent years, the CDV has demonstrated its expertise to World Sailing, the French Sailing Federation, and competitors from around the world. This World Championship is distinguished by its gender parity, with three categories: one for women, one for men, and one mixed. The 49er, 49er FX, and Nacra 17 boats have profoundly redefined the image of Olympic sailing. Faster and more spectacular, they attracted a younger generation of crews and ushered in a new era, definitively leaving their predecessors in the 20th century.

Training and storage fees before the 49, FX & Nacra 17 World Championship

Training fees (without accommodation and meals): € 6,00 per day per person (12 € for a team)

Storage on site: € 25.00 flat rate per week or €60.00 per month (per rib, per boat)
