Mandy Mulder and Coen de Koning showed a strong performance in Miami. Even more so because this was their comeback event after Coen broke his collar bone a few months ago. He was operated in September. They used a plate with 7 screws to transfer 3 pieces of collarbone into one. He was far from being able to sail at that time.
At the head of the fleet World #1 Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darmanin (AUS) will spearhead a pack of 49 that includes high profile Nacra 17 contenders. Teams such as three-time World Champions Billy Besson and Marie Riou (FRA), World #2 Vittorio Bissaro and Silvia Sicouri (ITA) and the experienced Santiago Lange and Cecilia Carranza Saroli (ARG) will all be on the start line.

Tomorrow the waters of Barcelona will be the scene of a heart-stopping Medal Race. Today
The crews tried to make the most of it on the second day in a row without racing due to the lack of wind at the Barcelona International Sailing Center’s facilities. The races on the fourth day of the Nacra 17 European Championship got cancelled. On day 3 there was too much wind and on day 4 there was not enough. With about knots of wind on the race course in Barcelona, the 42 teams from 23 countries participating in this European competition had to stay ashore without racing.
Four races are scheduled for today. The calm after the storm… Light East winds, between 5 and 10 knots, and big swell (2,5mtrs) are forecasted for today. At this moment (11h.) there is a very light NE breeze. The fleet is waiting ashore.
All three scheduled races were cancelled today due to severe wind conditions with gusts of wind of almost 35 knots and two meters’ waves. Austrian Thomas Zajac, who is sixth in the classification of the open championship after sailing six races with his partner Tanja Frank, summarized the feeling of the fleet: “Under these conditions, I think that to have a fleet race with so many Nacra 17 boats would be dangerous.”
Strong winds and driftwood on the race course made it a challenging second day of racing in Barcelona. The wind speed went up from 12 to 17 knots from the NE, and there were a lot of waves today. The fleet of 42 boats from 23 nations completed three races on the second day. With a total of six races the teams can now discard their worst result.
Brits Ben Saxton and Nicola Groves are leading the Nacra 17 European Championships after 1 day of racing. The teams sailed three races on the opening day of this continental event that takes place in the Barcelona International Sailing Center (BISC).
