The 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra 17 Classes are excited to announce the venues and dates for our two major championships in 2026 – the World Championship in Quiberon, France, followed by the European Championship in Eckernförde, Germany.
Both events will be key milestones on the road to the LA 2028 Olympic Games, as the world’s top sailors sharpen their skills and establish themselves in the international fleet.
2026 World Championship – Quiberon, France
📅 9–11 May – Registration & Measurement (with practice racing on May 11)
📅 12–17 May – Championship Racing
The World Championship will be hosted in Quiberon, one of France’s premier sailing venues on the Atlantic coast. Known for its steady winds and challenging tidal conditions, Quiberon offers a spectacular natural arena for high-performance racing. The local sailing community has a rich history of hosting top-tier regattas, and sailors can expect both world-class competition and warm French hospitality.

2026 European Championship – Eckernförde, Germany
📅 4–6 July – Registration & Measurement (with practice racing on July 6)
📅 7–12 July – Championship Racing
The European Championship will be hosted by the Sailing Club Eckernförde, located just west of Kiel, Germany. With Kieler Woche immediately preceding the Europeans, teams will have a unique opportunity to race back-to-back regattas in one of Europe’s most vibrant sailing regions.
Germany has long been a powerhouse in the 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra 17 fleets, winning bronze medals in all three events at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. While those medalists have since retired, a new wave of German talent is rising – highlighted by German victories at the 2025 Junior World Championships in both the 49er and 49erFX Women’s divisions.
