With around one thousand sailors from approximately 55 nations, the Trofeo Princesa Sofía IBEROSTAR is one of the most important Olympic Sailing events in Europe. This year it reaches its 47th edition to be held from 25th March to 2nd April in the bay of Palma and it is a qualification event for Rio 2016. The Majorcan waters will see teams battling for the last nation slot for Europe and the last national passport for the African nations, in all classes.
But the Trofeo Princesa Sofía IBEROSTAR is also one the events traditionally chosen for the national selection trials, both for the Spanish team as well as for other nations. The Olympic Preparation Management of the Spanish Sailing Federation (RFEV) has chosen the Majorcan event to select the Laser Standard and Nacra 17 teams. The new Olympic Catamaran will guarantee one of the most vibrant selections in which two great names of Spanish Olympic sailing, Iker Martínez and Fernando Echávarri will battle to get the passport to the Olympics.
